The Godforsaken God

O the love of God that He, infinity rich and clothed in majesty and splendour, became – God the pauper.

That He, higher than any angel, more exalted than any thought can reach, Holy, undefiled, and limitless in purity, was made responsible for all our guilt, our slimy, ever increasing evil, all the crimes put on His account, He became – God the sinner.

O that Himself, surrounded by countless cherub and seraph, ever basking in the glorious, undimmed love of the Father became – A solitary, lonely God.

The marvel, that the Creator of the vast infinite universe, the Master of architectural wonders, in Heaven and Earth, the Constructor of unimaginable beauty and mansions untold, became – A homeless God.

It’s incomprehensible that He the Almighty, powerful God, reverenced and adored, was bullied, forced, persecuted, tormented, harassed, stalked, and became – God the Victim.

He, the Friend of God the Father, kept ever in the bosom of His love, He the Friend of all the universe, the Friend of sinners, the One to lift, support, and help all the down, broken, hurt and sad, was betrayed, forsaken, forgotten by all, and became – the abandoned God.

That He, the One who speaks and mountains stand, planets form and stars shine, the One altogether the Great Mighty Warrior and Conqueror, was hunted, pursued, overwhelmed, distressed, and became – God the prey.

That He, after all His tireless labor of love, sleepless interest and concern, unending care and attention, upmost compassion and friendship, was rejected, stood alone, supported by none, and became – God the reject.

His love that shields the vulnerable, beats back the storm of the oppressor, disarms the enemy, repulses the threatening crisis, found Himself in constant jeopardy, snares and traps on every side, peril waiting around every bend, evil lurking at every step, He became – the God in danger.

Through all this, He, striding on undaunted, above all this, the One who knelt in the soil, forming man, His treasured masterpiece, carefully constructing the hands, heart and brain, breathing life in to the silent form, the One who was ever finding new ways to show His love, sending miracles and mercies day by day, moment by moment, loving the unlovable, saving the unsavable, fixing the unfixable, finding the unfindable, finally became a human, took on our dust and ashes, to once again kneel in the soil with man, and was taken by the hands of His masterpiece, nailed to a cross, left there to die, He became – God the crucified.

O the unthinkable that He, the Companion, the Friend, the Ally of the Father, eternally enshrined in His infinite favour, was enveloped in the Father’s wrath, seeing no more His acceptance and approval, and became – the Godforsaken God.

Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: 1 Peter 4:1

Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; 1 Peter 4:12

Because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: 1 Peter 2:21
