Donkeys know what’s up

Donkeys know what’s up.

As a child growing up, we had a Border Collie named Bonnie. Every so often we played a game where we’d make a square with my mum, my brother, my sister and myself. Then we’d place Bonnie in the middle of that square and we’d all beg her to come to us to see which one of us she liked the most. Almost always Bonnie would run straight to our mum despite our desperate pleas. My siblings and I would be left dejected while at the same time wondering why Bonnie would continually choose our mum over us.

Later on it dawned on me why Bonnie always turned to my mum. My mother was the one who consistently fed her each morning and evening. She would also fill up Bonnie’s water bucket with fresh water each time it was running empty. No wonder Bonnie kept on returning to our Mum! She was the woman who consistently supplied all her physical needs.

Donkeys and other farm/domestic animals are the same. They will always return to the hand that feeds them! They’ve built up trust with that hand that is hard to break!

“Cattle know who owns them, and donkeys know where their master feeds them. But that is more than my people Israel know. They don’t understand at all.” Isaiah 1:3

Donkeys know what’s up!

If only we would recognise the One who’s feeding us in so many different ways. Our Heavenly Father is the ultimate Provider!! Unbeknown to us, the same God who feeds all the animals has been caring for our physical needs all along! Every breath is a gift from Him!

“Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?” Matthew 6:26

As human beings we have many emotional and psychological needs. And Guess what! He is more than able to meet all those needs too! 2,000 years ago He offered His broken body, the bread of life, as healing for all our mental and emotional scars that sin has engraved into the core of our beings! He carried and was crushed by all our sin, guilt and shame at Calvary! Today He pleads for us to feed on the love and forgiveness we all desperately crave that is only found in Him!

“I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.” John 6:51

When we start feeding on His love, we begin to experience the process of healing that comes from being fully known and yet still fully loved!   Right now, the One who is able to supply your every need is offering to be your Father. What a mind-blowing offer!

So He calls. . .

“Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, and will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.” 2 Corinthians 6:17-18

May we all cease chasing after the latest products and pursue after the Producer. . .

and stop focusing on the provisions and trust in the Provider. . .

Let’s stop running to the supplies and instead run to the feet of our loving Supplier!!!

Donkeys know what’s up!
